A crisp breeze whispered through the air, hinting at winter’s embrace as the new year unfolded. It was business as usual for Ryan and his dedicated team of detectives, who were preparing for the fresh challenges the year might bring. Typically, the holidays usher in a quiet period, drawing families and couples closer together. But this notion was quickly dispelled as the office door swung open with urgency.
Without missing a beat, Ryan sprang to his feet. “Welcome to Ryan’s Roses. How can I assist you today?” he inquired, approaching the service desk with a warm smile. The woman, her eyes hidden behind sunglasses, stepped forward. “I have a dilemma, and I’m hoping you can help,” she said softly, her voice tinged with a quiver of nervousness.
She began to unravel her story. She was happily married—or so she thought. Her husband had struggled with alcohol consumption, and recently, he confessed to a one-time affair. The revelation hit her hard, yet she chose to forgive him, believing it to be a singular lapse in judgment. Despite his honesty, a nagging doubt lingered, whispering that he might still be unfaithful. The thoughts were unbearable.
For Ryan, this was a familiar scenario. However, curiosity piqued his interest, and he asked if, should her husband be found innocent, this was a situation she could work through. She confirmed her willingness to reconcile, leaving Ryan to assign the case to his trusted detective, Sissane. Armed with all the necessary information, Sissane set to work, calling the husband. After a few tense moments, the call connected.
Ever the professional, Sissane wasted no time, informing the caller about the dozen roses he could send to anyone of his choosing, free of charge. The voice on the other end was skeptical, suspecting a scam. Yet, Sissane’s persistence paid off, and the gentleman accepted the offer.
The recipient? His wife.
On cue, Ryan revealed the ruse, explaining that this was orchestrated by his wife and detailing the circumstances of this fateful interaction. The husband, filled with dread and despair, reassured his wife that the incident from last year was a grave mistake, a solitary misstep. He professed his love for her and his commitment to making amends. He had since abstained from alcohol, determined to rebuild their trust. Though his words were sincere, doubt still lingered in his wife’s mind. With that, they were left to navigate their path forward as Ryan’s Detective Agency closed another case.
Verdict: Not Guilty, but there’s work to be done.
